Trip to Sao Paulo Brazil/Viaje a San Pablo Brasil

Thursday, June 2, I left for Sao Paulo, Brazil to preach the anniversary conference for one of the missionaries we support, Brother Juan Vallejo.  He has been in Sao Paulo for five years, but began the Sao Paulo Baptist church three years ago.  It was an experience I will never forget!  I’ve been in a lot of countries preaching, but this was my first time being in a country where I didn’t speak the language.  So beginning in Miami at the gate where I boarded American Airlines flight 929, I began to see that I was going to have an interesting time.  I thought Portuguese was very close to Spanish, but boy was I wrong in thinking I would understand!  I could catch some words, but I could not make any sense of what they were saying!  I flew all night and arrive in Sao Paulo at 7:00 am where I was met by Pastor Vallejo.  We drove over an hour to his city and I spent some time with him waiting for my hotel room to be ready.  Then I preached Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday Morning and night.  The attendance was great every night and we had people saved in the conference and many decisions were made.  I went soul winning with Bro. Vallejo in an area that left me with my mouth open.  The poverty and the size of the houses and the amount of people to be reached was something that you would have to see it to know what I’m talking about.  The need is great and the need for workers is even greater.  I would ask anyone wondering if you are being called to the mission field to consider going to Sao Paulo and help the Vallejo family.  I hope you enjoy the pictures of the trip.  Praise God for our missionaries!   They are our heroes!

El jueves, 2 de junio salí para San Pablo, Brasil para predicar la conferencia de aniversario para uno de los misioneros que sostenemos, el Hermano Juan Vallejo.  El ha estado en San Pablo por cinco años, pero comenzó la Iglesia Bautista de San Pablo tres años atrás.  ¡Fue una experiencia que nunca olvidaré!  Yo he estado en muchos países predicando, pero esta fue mi primera vez en estar en un país donde no hablaba el idioma.  Así que comenzando en Miami en la puerta de salida donde abordé el vuelo 929 de American Airlines, comencé a ver que yo iba a tener un tiempo bien interesante.  ¡Yo pensaba que el Portugués es casi igual que el Español, pero muchacho lo incorrecto que yo estaba en pensar que yo iba a entender!  ¡Podía captar algunas palabras, pero no podía hacer sentido de lo que estaban diciendo!  Volé toda la noche y llegué a San Pablo a las 7:00 am donde fui encontrado por el Pastor Vallejo.  Manejamos más de una hora hasta su cuidad y pasé un tiempo con él esperando por mi cuarto de hotel que estuviera  listo.  Luego prediqué el viernes en la noche, el sábado en la noche, el domingo en la mañana y en la noche.  La asistencia fue buena cada noche y tuvimos personas salvas en la conferencia y muchas decisiones fueron hechas.  Fui a ganar almas con el Hermano Vallejo en un área que me dejó boquiabierto.  La pobreza y el tamaño de las casas y la cantidad de personas para ser alcanzadas fue algo que usted tiene que verlo para saber de lo que estoy hablando.  La necesidad es grande y la necesidad de obreros es aún más grande todavía.  Le pediría a cualquiera pensando si está siendo llamado a ir al campo misionero que considere ir a San Pablo y ayudar a la familia Vallejo.  Espero disfruten las fotos del viaje.  ¡Gloria a Dios por nuestros misioneros! ¡Son nuestros héroes!

Trip to San Luis Potosi/Viaje a San Luis Potosi

I’m sorry I haven’t written in a while, but a lot has happened in the last two weeks.  I begin by letting you know that on May 27^th my wife and I boarded an American Eagle flight bound to San Luis Potosí where I was to speak for my good friend, Dr. Luis Ramos, Pastor of the Bible Baptist Church in San Luis.  I have had many privileges in my life and I count speaking at this great church one of them.  I spoke for Dr. Ramos in the morning service and at night I preached the graduation service for his Bible Institute with 50 graduates.  It was also a time where my wife and I were able to see many friends in the ministry and missionaries we support.  Enjoy the pictures!

Siento que no haya escrito antes, pero mucho ha pasado en las últimas dos semanas.  Comienzo dejándoles saber que el 27 de mayo mi esposa y yo tomamos un avión de American Eagle rumbo a San Luis Potosí donde iba a predicar para mi buen amigo, el Dr. Luis Ramos, Pastor de la Iglesia Bíblica Bautista de San Luis.  Yo he tenido muchos privilegios en mi vida y considero el predicar en esta gran iglesia uno de ellos.  Prediqué para el Dr. Ramos en el servicio de la mañana y en la noche prediqué la graduación de su Instituto Bíblico con 50 graduados.  Fue también un tiempo para mi esposa y yo poder ver a muchos amigos del ministerio y a misioneros que sostenemos.  ¡Disfruten las fotos!

Last night the Lord allowed me to have Bob Hawkins and his family in our service where he presented the work to which God had called them to do in the country of Brazil.  Bob and Angela were students in Texas Baptist College when I was Dean of Men and was a Bible teacher.  They both took classes with me and I had Bob in the dorm as one of my boys.  What a great blessing to see young people in whom I had an influence serving God and following His call!  Nothing like investing in people's lives!  Bob and Angela have two girls and are expecting two indentical twin girls in August!

Anoche Dios me concedio tener a Bob Hawkins y a su familia en nuestro servicio donde el presento la obra a la cual Dios los ha llamado a hacer en el pais de Brasil.  Bob y Angela fueron estudiantes en el Colegio Bautista de Texas cuando yo fui el Decano de Hombres y maestro de Biblia.  Ellos ambos tomaron clases conmigo y yo tuve a Bob en el dormitorio como uno de mis muchachos.  ¡Que gran bendicion ver jovenes en quienes yo tuve influencia sirviendo a Dios y siguiendo Su llamado!  ¡Nada como invertir en la vida de las personas!  ¡Bob y Angela tienen dos niñas y estan esperando gemelas identicas en Agosto!

Yesterday morning, as we do every year around this time, we took a moment in our morning service to recognize our high school graduates.  This year we had Jazmin Rios who graduated from Grace Christian Academy in Flower Mound, Texas, Keven Gonzalez, who graduated from Marcus High School in Flower Mound Texas, and Alan Corral and Maleny De La Torre who graduated from Lewisville High School in Lewisville, Texas.  Congratulations Jazmin, Keven, Alan and Maleny for this accomplishment and may the Lord lead you to do His perfect will!

Ayer en la mañana, como hacemos todos los años para este tiempo, tomamos un momento en el servicio de la mañana para reconocer a nuestros graduados de la preparatoria.  Este año tuvimos a Jazmin Rios quien se graduo de Grace Christian Academy en Flower Mound, Texas, a Keven Gonzalez quien se graduo de Marcus High School en Flower Mound, Texas, y a Alan Corral y Maleny De La Torre quienes se graduaron de Lewisville High School en Lewisviile, Texas.  ¡Felicidades Jazmin, Keven, Alan y Maleny por este logro y que el Señor los guie a hacer Su perfecta voluntad!

Last Wednesday night we had the honor of having Missionary to Guatemala, Giovanni Avendaño, present his work.  I met Bro. Giovanni last October when I went to preach for Missionary Jose Alavarado, a missionary our church supports.  Bro. Giovanni came to the conference there and we began a friendship.  I just so happens that Bro. Giovanni lived in Puerto Rico for several years while attending Bible college there.  So we had a few things in common.  Bro. Giovanni is doing a great work.  He has been there for 8 years and God has given him a solid church.  They are now starting a second church as a mission from his church. No greater investment than the investment in the mission field!  Let's pray for our missionaries!

El miercoles pasado tuvimos el honor de tener al Misionero a Guatemala, Giovanni Avendaño, presentar su obra.  Yo conoci al Hno. Giovanni el pasado octubre cuando fui a predicar para el Misionero Jose Alvarado, un misionero que nuestra iglesia apoya.  El Hno. Giovanni vino a la conferencia y comenzamos una amistad.  Sucede que el Hno. Giovanni vivio en Puerto Rico unos años mientras asistio el colegio Biblico ahi.  Asi que teniamos varias cosas en comun.  El Hno. Giovanni esta haciendo una gran obra.  El ha estado ahi 8 años y Dios le ha dado una iglesia solida.  Ahora estan comenzando una segunda iglesia como una mision de su iglesia.  ¡No hay mayor inversion que la inversion en el campo misionero!  ¡Oremos por nuestros misioneros!

Last night was another special night in our family's book of memories.  Jared, our son in law, graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pastoral Theology.  Jared continues to make us proud and no doubt the Lord has plans for him and my daughter (and Gabriella) as they follow God's direction to go to the Philippine Islands.  Congratulations Jared!  We love you and thank God for you!

Anoche fue otra noche especial en el libro de memorias de nuestra familia.  Jared, nuestro yerno, se graduo con un Diploma de Bachillerato de Ciencia en Teologia Pastoral.  Jared continua haciendonos orgullosos y sin duda el Señor tiene planes para el y mi hija (y Gabriella) mientras ellos siguen la direccion de Dios a ir a las Islas Filipinas.  ¡Felicidades Jared!  ¡Te amamos y le damos gracias a Dios por ti!

This past Sunday night we had the opportunity of having Evangelist Hector Rodriguez and his wife Nellie in our church.  Their calling is to work with the families.  Bro. and Mrs. Rodriguez travel the country preaching and treaching on the family.  God is using this couple in a mighty way.  They have three boys, all of them trained to be preachers.  Two of them are pastoring right now; Hector Rodriguez Jr. in Washington, Iowa and Isac Rodriguez in La Port, Texas.  Their youngest son, Elmer Rodriguez, is a member in Isac's church waiting on the Lord as to where to start a church.  My wife and I have known the Rodriguez family since our days in Hammond, Indiana in 1982-1989.  Bro. Rodriguez preached a powerful message to our people on the family last night.  He supplied my pulpit while I attended my son in law's college graduation at Parkside Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas.  Today we were able to spend some time together for lunch and had a wonderful time reminiscing about old days.  Praise the Lord for couples who have set an example to us younger families!

Este pasado domingo en la noche tuvimos la oportunidad de tener al Evangelista Hector Rodriguez y su esposa Nellie en nuestra iglesia.  Su llamado es trabajar con las familias.  El Hno. y la Hna. Rodriguez viajan por la nacion predicando y enseñando sobre la familia.  Dios esta usando a esta pareja en una manera poderosa.  Ellos tienen tres hijos, todos ellos entrenados a ser predicadores.  Dos de ellos pastorean en este momento, Hector Rodriguez Jr. en Washington, Iowa e Isac Rodriguez en La Port, Texas.  Su hijo menor, Elmer Rodriguez, es miembro en la iglesia de Isac esperando en el Señor en cuanto a donde comenzar una iglesia.  Mi esposa y yo hemos conocido a la familia Rodriguez desde nuestros dias en Hammond, Indiana en 1982-1989.  El Hno. Rodriguez predico un mensaje poderoso sobre la familia a nuestra gente anoche.  El suplio mi pulpito mientras yo asisti a la graduacion colegial de mi yerno en la Iglesia Bautista Parkside en Mesquite, Texas.  Hoy pudimos pasar un tiempo juntos almorzando y tuvimos un maravilloso tiempo recordando los viejos dias.  ¡Gloria a Dios por parejas que han establecido un ejemplo para nosotros parejas jovenes!
