Back on the trail/De regreso en la senda

After almost four weeks of not traveling and staying home for the holidays, the time came to get back on the traveling trail.  On Sunday, January 1^st after the evening service was over one of my men took me to DFW airport where I boarded a plane to San Diego, California.  There I was met by David Cortes, Jr. and his wife and they drove me to Tijuana, Mexico, about 25 minutes from the airport.  I arrived at 1:00 a.m. their time but in reality it was 3:00 a.m. my time.  I was tired so as soon as I got in my room I unpacked and went to sleep for a few hours.  I spoke at the Annual Youth Conference for the Open Door Baptist Church where Dr. David Cortes is the Pastor.  I spoke Monday morning twice and Monday night, the same on Tuesday and finished the conference on Wednesday night.  I flew back on Thursday!  The conference was well attended with attendances in the 600’s.  There were many decisions made during the conference.  Although the last time I had been with Pastor Cortes was in 1995, I have preached for him several times since 1987.  After I moved to Longview, Texas we lost contact until recently where we have preached together in a couple of conferences.  Because of my schedule it was not until this year that I was able to go back.  I felt really old when I found myself preaching for the teens of the parents that were teens when I first preached in 1987.  Many are still serving the Lord since then and now they hope that the same is accomplished in their children.  Praise the Lord for allowing our influence pass through generations.  It is only by His grace that we can be used of HIM!

Después de casi cuatro semanas de no viajar y quedarme en casa para los días festivos, el tiempo llegó de regresar a la senda de los viajes.  El domingo 1 de enero después del servicio de la noche terminar unos de mis hombres me llevó al aeropuerto DFW donde abordé un avión con rumbo a San Diego, California.  Ahí fui encontrado por David Cortés, Jr. y su esposa y ellos me llevaron a Tijuana, México, como unos 25 minutos del aeropuerto.  Llegué a mi cuarto a las 1:00 a.m. tiempo de ellos, pero en realidad eran las 3:00 a.m. mi tiempo.  Estaba cansado así que enseguida que llegué a mi cuarto desempaqué y me fui a dormir unas pocas horas.  Prediqué en la Conferencia Anual de Jóvenes en la Iglesia Bautista Puerta Abierta donde el Pastor es el Dr. David Cortés.  Prediqué el lunes en la mañana dos veces y el lunes en la noche, lo mismo el martes y terminé la conferencia el miércoles en la noche.  ¡Volé de regreso el jueves!  La conferencia tuvo una buena asistencia con asistencias hasta los 600’s.  Hubo muchas decisiones hechas durante la conferencia.  Aunque la última vez que estuve con el Pastor Cortés fue en el 1995, yo había predicado para él varias veces desde el 1987.  Después que me mudé a Longview, Texas perdimos contacto hasta recientemente donde predicamos juntos en par de conferencias.  Por causa de mi agenda no fue hasta este año que pude regresar.  Me sentí bien viejo cuando me encontré predicándoles a jóvenes de los padres que eran jóvenes cuando prediqué la primera vez en el 1987.  Muchos están todavía sirviendo al Señor y ahora esperan que lo mismo sea logrado en sus hijos.  ¡Gloria a Dios por permitir que nuestra influencia pase por generaciones!  ¡Es sólo por Su gracia que podemos ser usados por EL!

Trip to Venezuela/Viaje a Venezuela

On Tuesday, November 29th my wife and I boarded a plane bound to Caracas, Venezuela.  I was to speak at a couples retreat in a place called “Colonia Tovar” which was owned by the Germans many years ago.  It was a beautiful place and the retreat was a great success. After the retreat, we traveled to the city of Maracay where I preached a family conference Friday through Sunday.  The Lord blessed greatly with many decisions and people saved and baptized.  The sweetest thing about the whole trip was the way the hearts of those dear people attached to ours.  We were blessed by the many friends we made during that week.  Many keep in touch since then by emails and calls.  I was not able to put all the pictures but here are some.  Enjoy them! For more pictures you can read my wife's blog - www.robertaortiz.blogspot.com

El Martes, 29 de noviembre mi esposa y yo abordamos un avión con rumbo a Caracas, Venezuela.  Yo iba a hablar en un retiro de parejas en un lugar llamado “Colonia Tovar” el cual fue propiedad de los Alemanes muchos años atrás.  Era un lugar hermoso y el retiro fue de gran éxito.  Después del retiro, viajamos a la ciudad de Maracay donde yo prediqué una conferencia de la familia del viernes a domingo.  El señor bendijo grandemente con muchas decisiones y personas salvas y bautizadas.  Lo más dulce de todo el viaje fue la manera en los corazones de esas queridas personas fue apegado al de nosotros.  Fuimos bendecidos por las muchas amistades que hicimos durante esa semana.  Muchos se han mantenido en contacto desde ese entonces por correos electrónicos y llamadas.  No pude poner todas las fotos pero aqui hay algunas. ¡Disfrutenlas! I am back!/Estoy de regreso!

After my wife and I got back from Venezuela, I took a direct hit on the flu that put me down for nearly two weeks.  So that is why I haven’t posted anything since my trip to Mexico in November. Then with the Christmas holidays and not traveling for almost four weeks I decided to take a break. But I am back to the routine so I’ll be back posting on my blog. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and may the Lord bless you in this new year.

Después de mi esposa y yo regresar de Venezuela, agarré un golpe directo de la gripa que me tumbó por casi dos semanas.  Así que es por eso que no he escrito nada desde mi viaje a México en Noviembre.  Luego con los días festivos de Navidad y no viajar por casi cuatro semanas, decidí tomar un receso.  Pero ya estoy de regreso en la rutina así que estaré escribiendo en mi blog. Espero todos hayan pasado una feliz Navidad y que Dios les bendiga en este nuevo año.
