Preaching in Roma, TX/Predicando en Roma, TX

On Thursday, September 15, I flew to McAllen, TX.  Pastor Jorge Briones, from the Bible Baptist Church in Roma, TX came to pick me up.  I preached a two night missions’ conference in his church.  We had a tremendous time and the Lord really motivated this congregation to give more to missions.  Before I left, Pastor Briones took me to a spot on a hill near the church where I could see across the Rio Grande into the Mexican border and the city of Miguel Alemán.

El jueves, 15 de septiembre, volé a McAllen, TX.  El Pastor Jorge Briones, de la Iglesia Bíblica Bautista de Roma, TX vino a recogerme.  Prediqué una conferencia de misiones de dos noches en su iglesia.  Tuvimos un tiempo tremendo y el Señor verdaderamente motivó a esta congregación a dar más para misiones.  Antes de irme, el Pastor Briones me llevó a una colina cerca de la iglesia donde pude ver al cruzar del Río Grande la frontera de México a la ciudad de Miguel Alemán.

Our church celebrates its 12th anniversary/Nuestra iglesia celebra su 12vo aniversario

On Sunday, September 11, our church celebrated its 12 years in existence.  Praise the Lord for that faithful group of people who decided with God’s help to begin a Spanish Independent Baptist Church on September 1999.  We had a great Sunday that day and although we didn’t have a big push for attendance (Our Fall Program begins on October 2) we still had a full house Sunday morning and night.  We gave away a key chain with the church’s name engraved to all present in church that day (adults and teens) and to the children we gave away a toy.  Then at night we had a special service with all of our music groups singing a special and after the service a big dinner and of course a beautifully decorated “Tres Leches” cake for dessert.  During the evening service everyone brought a gift for the church.  We have all Sunday school classes participate and our teachers help organize this and in the service all the classes march across the platform and put a gift on the table for the church.  Gifts of all kinds are brought, from things for the office, our vehicles, cleaning supplies, kitchen supplies, gift cards to different places where the church does business, to cash for special needs.  Congratulations Iglesia Bautista Fundamental on your 12^th anniversary!

El domingo, 11 de septiembre, nuestra iglesia celebró sus 12 años de existencia.  Gloria a Dios por ese grupo fiel de personas que decidieron con la ayuda de Dios comenzar una Iglesia Hispana Bautista Independiente en septiembre 1999.   Tuvimos un gran domingo y aunque no tuvimos un gran énfasis en asistencia (Nuestra campaña de otoño comienza el 2 de octubre) aún así tuvimos casa llena el domingo en la mañana y en la noche.  Le regalamos un llavero con el nombre de la iglesia impreso en él a todos los presentes ese día (adultos y jóvenes) y a los niños le regalamos un juguete.  Luego en la noche tuvimos un servicio especial con todos nuestros grupos de música cantando un especial y después del servicio una gran cena y claro un pastel de tres leches hermosamente decorado para el postre.  Durante el servicio de la noche todos trajeron un regalo para la iglesia.  Le pedimos a todas las clases dominicales que participaran y nuestros maestros nos ayudaron a organizar esto y en el servicio todas las clases marcharon por la plataforma y pusieron un regalo sobre la mesa para la iglesia.  Regalos de toda clase fueron traídos, de cosas para la oficina, nuestros vehículos, efectos de limpieza, efectos de cocina, tarjetas de regalo para diferentes lugares donde la iglesia lleva a cabo negocios hasta dinero en efectivo para necesidades especiales.  ¡Felicidades Iglesia Bautista Fundamental en tu 12vo aniversario!

Preaching in Puerto Rico/Predicando en Puerto Rico

After being in Santo Domingo for 3 days, I flew on Monday, September 5, to my country, San Juan, Puerto Rico, to not only preach a conference, but also spend a couple of days relaxing with my beautiful wife who flew that Monday and met me there.  After I arrived on the Island the couple who picked me up, José Miguel and Elsita Rivera from the city of Fajardo, and I went out to eat and kill some time at the Plaza Las Americas Mall until my wife was to arrive later that evening.  She arrived around 6:30 pm that night and then we went to the Rio Mar Beach Resort in the city of Rio Grande where we stayed two days.  On Wednesday we left for Fajardo and stayed at Jose Miguel and Elsita’s home the rest of the time we were there.  I preached for Pastor Luis Martínez, from the First Baptist Church of Ceiba a three night revival conference.  The Lord met with us and as the Pastor said, “We heard from Heaven.”  Many decisions were made for His honor and glory.  I also had the opportunity to preach for a dear friend of the family of many years, Dr. Mike Casillas, Founder and President of the Puerto Rico Baptist College University in Bayamón.  It is also the place where the church I was saved on October, 20, 1974 is located.  It was a blessing for me to see again that precious building where the Lord saved this little boy who gave Him his heart at the age of 10.  I preached to the students in chapel and had a great time with them.  We had a great time visiting with friends and family and also do God’s work there.  Praise the Lord we were able to leave the Island and get back home before Tropical Storm “María” hit its shores.

Después de estar en Santo Domingo tres días, volé el lunes 5 de septiembre a mi país, San Juan, Puerto Rico, no sólo a predicar una conferencia, sino también a pasar un par de días en relajamiento con mi hermosa esposa quien voló ese lunes y se encontró conmigo ahí. Después que yo aterricé en la Isla la pareja que me recogió, José Miguel y Elsita Rivera del pueblo de Fajardo, y yo nos fuimos a comer y a matar el tiempo en el mall de Plaza Las Américas hasta que mi esposa llegara más tarde esa noche.  Ella llegó cerca de las 6:30 pm esa noche y luego nos fuimos al Resorte Río Mar en el pueblo de Río Grande donde pasamos dos días.  El miércoles nos fuimos para Fajardo y nos quedamos en la casa de José Miguel y Elsita el resto de nuestro tiempo ahí.  Prediqué para el Pastor Luis Martínez, de la Primera Iglesia Bautista de Ceiba una conferencia de avivamiento de tres noches.  El Señor estuvo con nosotros y como dijo el Pastor, “Escuchamos del Cielo.”  Muchas decisiones fueron hechas para Su honor y gloria.  Tuve la oportunidad también de predicar para una amigo de años de nuestra familia, el Dr. Miguel Casillas, Fundador y Presidente del Colegio Universitario Bautista de Puerto Rico en Bayamón.  Es también el lugar donde la iglesia donde yo fui salvo el 20 de octubre de 1974 está localizada.  Fue una bendición para mí poder ver otra vez ese precioso edificio donde el Señor salvó a este pequeño niño que le dio su corazón a El a la edad de 10 años.  Le prediqué a los estudiantes en capilla y tuve un buen tiempo con ellos.  Tuvimos un buen tiempo visitando amistades y familiares y también haciendo la obra de Dios ahí.  Gloria a Dios que pudimos salir de la Isla y regresar a casa antes de la Tormenta Tropical “María” llegara a sus orillas.

Preaching in the Dominican Republic/Predicando en la Republica Dominicana

On Friday, September 2, I left my house early to catch a plane bound to Santo Domingo to preach a evangelistic conference for Pastor José Agüero of the Fundamental Baptist Church in Santo Domingo.  What a meeting it was!  Pastor Agüero is a dear friend and has been the Pastor of that church for over 30 years.  He has over 500 in Sunday school every week and the church has a tremendous impact in the city.  To my surprise a young man by the name of Ariel Alfonso came to meet me after the Sunday morning service who is pastoring a church in the city of San Cristóbal.  He surrendered to the ministry when I preached at another church 18 years ago.  He was 12 years old at the time.  It pays to stay faithful and answer the call of God to preach.  Praise the Lord for allowing m to see some of my fruit.

El viernes, 2 de septiembre, salí de mi casa para tomar un avión con rumbo a Santo Domingo para predicar para el Pastor José Agüero de la Iglesia Bautista Fundamental de Santo Domingo.  ¡Qué tremenda reunión fue!  El Pastor Agüero es un gran amigo y ha sido el Pastor de esa iglesia por más de 30 años.  El tiene más de 500 en la escuela dominical cada semana y la iglesia tiene un tremendo impacto en la ciudad.  Para mi sorpresa un joven llamado Ariel Alfonso vino a encontrase conmigo después del servicio del domingo en la mañana quien pastorea una iglesia en la ciudad de San Cristóbal.  El se rindió al ministerio cuando yo prediqué en otra iglesia 18 años atrás.  El tenía 12 años entonces.  Vale la pena permanecer fiel y responder al llamado de Dios de predicar.  Gloria a Dios por El haberme permitido ver parte de mi fruto.
