Preaching in Jalisco, Mexico/Predicando en Jalisco, Mexico
Last Monday, February 6th I went to DFW to board my flight to Guadalajara, Mexico. I preached at the Bible Baptist Church in Villa Corona, Jalisco where Missionary Luis García is the Pastor. Brother García is one of the 50 missionaries we support. He has been in Villa Corona for 5 years. God has truly blessed this man and his family with a growing church in a very small town and a very catholic town. I preached there Monday and Tuesday night. The Lord blessed the revival with many attending, several churches represented and many decisions. I got to see other missionaries we support. That is one of the highlights of my trips – when I get to see missionaries we support at the conferences where I preach. Then on Wednesday I was taken to La Capilla, Jalisco to preach for the fifth time in a row in the Annual Youth Conference at the Mount Sinai Fundamental Baptist Church where Brother Juan Padilla is the Pastor. Every year the Lord seems to bless even more and the conference once again was a success. Many churches were present and many decisions by the young people were made.

Preaching in Martinsburg, WV/Predicando en Martinsburg, WV
This past Wednesday, January 25th, I flew to Washington DC and was picked up by Brother Aaron Baxter, Assistant Pastor to Dr. Jeff Owens from the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church in Martinsburg, WV. I had the honor of preaching their 20th Annual Missions’ Conference with the theme “Circling the Globe for Christ.” The Lord met with us in a marvelous way with many decisions to give to faith promise missions and with others surrendering to the mission field. What an exciting church this is! Dr. Owens and I have known each other since our days in Bible college and our years working together under Dr. Jack Hyles. I have had many privileges in my life, but I count preaching at Dr. Owens’ church one of the top ones. We have a kindred spirit in God’s work and the old-time religion. Thank you, Dr. Owens, for your influence in my life and your friendship.

Spending time with friends/Pasando tiempo con amigos
On January 19-20 our youngest son, Andrés, went to Hot Spings, Arkansas to play basketball in a tournament hosted by the Gospel Light Baptist Church. It was a tournament of Christian high schools and our son’s school, Grace Christian Academy in Flower Mound, Texas, got third place. My wife and I decided to go and see our son play and while we were there we had the opportunity to catch up with our friends, John and Kim Smith and their family. Bro. John and I worked together in Longview, Texas for nearly 10 years before the Lord took us on our separate ways. The Smiths are dear friends and we had a great time staying at their home for those two days. Our daughter Elyssa Zapata and our baby granddaughter Gabriella went with us also. Jared, our son in law was in the Philippine Islands on a missions’ trip. Elyssa is a very good friend of Tiffany Smith McKittrick. After the tournament on Friday night all of us went to Perkins and enjoyed a great time of food and fellowship. In the picture you’ll see from left to right, John and Kim Smith, Joel their youngest, Ryan Smith their oldest and his wife Karissa. Then at the other end there’s Daren McKittrick holding Gabriella and to his left his wife Tiffany and to her left you see Elyssa, Andrés and my beautiful wife. Of course I’m not in the picture because I am the photographer.

Back on the trail/De regreso en la senda
After almost four weeks of not traveling and staying home for the holidays, the time came to get back on the traveling trail. On Sunday, January 1st after the evening service was over one of my men took me to DFW airport where I boarded a plane to San Diego, California. There I was met by David Cortes, Jr. and his wife and they drove me to Tijuana, Mexico, about 25 minutes from the airport. I arrived at 1:00 a.m. their time but in reality it was 3:00 a.m. my time. I was tired so as soon as I got in my room I unpacked and went to sleep for a few hours. I spoke at the Annual Youth Conference for the Open Door Baptist Church where Dr. David Cortes is the Pastor. I spoke Monday morning twice and Monday night, the same on Tuesday and finished the conference on Wednesday night. I flew back on Thursday! The conference was well attended with attendances in the 600’s. There were many decisions made during the conference. Although the last time I had been with Pastor Cortes was in 1995, I have preached for him several times since 1987. After I moved to Longview, Texas we lost contact until recently where we have preached together in a couple of conferences. Because of my schedule it was not until this year that I was able to go back. I felt really old when I found myself preaching for the teens of the parents that were teens when I first preached in 1987. Many are still serving the Lord since then and now they hope that the same is accomplished in their children. Praise the Lord for allowing our influence pass through generations. It is only by His grace that we can be used of HIM!

Trip to Venezuela/Viaje a Venezuela
On Tuesday, November 29th my wife and I boarded a plane bound to Caracas, Venezuela. I was to speak at a couples retreat in a place called “Colonia Tovar” which was owned by the Germans many years ago. It was a beautiful place and the retreat was a great success. After the retreat, we traveled to the city of Maracay where I preached a family conference Friday through Sunday. The Lord blessed greatly with many decisions and people saved and baptized. The sweetest thing about the whole trip was the way the hearts of those dear people attached to ours. We were blessed by the many friends we made during that week. Many keep in touch since then by emails and calls. I was not able to put all the pictures but here are some. Enjoy them! For more pictures you can read my wife's blog - www.robertaortiz.blogspot.com

I am back!/Estoy de regreso!
After my wife and I got back from Venezuela, I took a direct hit on the flu that put me down for nearly two weeks. So that is why I haven’t posted anything since my trip to Mexico in November. Then with the Christmas holidays and not traveling for almost four weeks I decided to take a break. But I am back to the routine so I’ll be back posting on my blog. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and may the Lord bless you in this new year.
