Last Friday our church hosted the 7th Annual Ladies' Banquet planned by my wife, Mrs. Ortiz and her committee of 6 ladies.  They had over 100 ladies present and Mrs. Billie Sloan was the speaker for the night.  Mrs. Sloan is the widow of Missionary Tom Sloan working in Chiapas, Mexico for 50 years.  Part of the tradition for this annual event is that myself, with the help of some of our men, serve the ladies.  We have the food catered, but we serve, clean up and do whatever it takes so that the ladies can come and enjoy the evening without having to worry about those things.  I think I am going to ask for a raise in pay because this was not part of my job description!  I'm just kidding!  As always, my wife did an excellent job with the help of her committee.  Thank you sweetheart for all you do for our church and thank you ladies for your support and loyalty!  We couldn't do it without any of you!

El viernes pasado nuestra iglesia patrocino el 7mo Banquete Anual de Damas planeado por mi esposa, la Hermana Ortiz, y su comite de 6 hermanas.  Ellas tuvieron mas de 100 mujeres presente y la Hermana Billie Sloan fue la conferencista de la noche.  La Hermana Sloan es la viuda del Misionero Tom Sloan trabajando en Chiapas, Mexico por mas de 50 años  Parte de la tradicion de este evento anual es que yo, con la ayuda de algunos de nuestros hombres, le servimos a las damas.  La comida es preparada afuera y traida, pero nosotros servimos, limpiamos, y hacemos lo que sea necesario para que las hermanas puedan venir y disfrutar de la noche sin tener que preocuparse por esas cosas.  ¡Creo que voy a pedir un aumento de salario porque esto no estaba en mi descripcion de trabajo!  ¡Estoy jugando!  Como siempre, mi esposa hizo un excelente trabajo con la ayuda de su comite.  ¡Gracias mi amor por todo lo que haces por nuestra iglesia y gracias hermanas por su apoyo y lealtad!  ¡No pudieramos hacerlo sin ninguna de ustedes!

A Baby Dedication/Una Dedicacion de Bebe

Bro. Victor Estrada and his wife Duvia Estrada dedicated their baby, Amanyuri Estrada, to the Lord this past Sunday night.  Bro. and Mrs. Estrada have three children and have been members of our church for 4 years.  He is a bus worker in the Irving bus route and she is involved in the nursery ministry and the women missionary circles.  These are the kind of members that make a Pastor feel honored to pastor a New Testament Baptist Church.  Praise the Lord for faithful and loyal church members!

El Hermano Victor Estrada y su esposa Duvia Estrada dedicaron a su bebe, Amanyuri Estrada, al Señor este domingo pasado en la noche.  El Hermano y la Hermana Estrada tienen tres hijos y han sido miembros de nuestra iglesia por 4 años.  El es un obrero en la ruta de autobus de Irving y ella esta envuelta en el ministerio de la guarderia y los circulos misioneros de mujeres.  Estos son la clase de miembros que hacen a un Pastor sentirse honrado en pastorear una Iglesia Bautista Nuevo Testamentaria.  ¡Gloria a Dios por miembros de la iglesia fieles y leales!

Obed Arevalo is new to our teen department.  He recently turned 12.  He is the son of Salvador and Laura Arevalo.  Bro. Salvador is one of our deacons and Mrs. Laura is one of the church's secretary.  Today as the teens went our soulwinning Obed led his firt soul to Christ.  How exciting it is to see our young people go out and win people to our Saviour!

Obed Arevalo es nuevo a nuestro departamento de jovenes.  El recientemente cumplio 12.  El es el hijo de Salvador y Laura Arevalo.  El Hermano Salvador es uno de nuestros diaconos y la Hermana Laura es una de las secretarias de la iglesia.  Hoy mientras los jovenes salieron a ganar almas Obed guio a su primera alma a Cristo.  ¡Que emocionante es ver a nuestros jovenes salir y ganar personas para nuestro Salvador!

"A Gol For Christ" Spring Campaign/Campaña de Primavera" Un Gol Para Cristo"

Yesterday we began our four-week Spring Campaign, "A Gol For Christ."  (It is a soccer theme.)  We divided the church into two teams - The Lions vs. The Eagles.  Dr. Ray Young was our speaker as he has been for the past 5 years.  We had 370 in church yesterday morning with 13 professions and 1 baptism.  On Sunday night the Lord gave us 4 professions and 3 baptisms.  We had a soul-winning marathon on Saturday and the Lord allowed us to see over 150 people ask Jesus to save them.  Praise the Lord for the great start of our campaign!  By the way, the Lions are winning 6-2 over the Eagles.

Ayer comenzamos nuestra Campaña de Primavera, "Un Gol Para Cristo."  Dividimos a la iglesia en dos equipos - Los Leones vs. Las Aguilas.  El Dr. Ray Young fue nuestro predicador como lo ha sido por los pasado 5 años.  Tuvimos 370 en la iglesia por la mañana con 13 profesiones y 1 bautismo.  El domingo en la noche Dios nos dio 4 profesiones y 3 bautismos.  Tuvimos un maraton de ganar almas el sabado y el Señor nos permitio ver mas de 150 personas pedirle a Jesus que les salvase. ¡Gloria a Dios por el gran comienzo de nuestra campaña!  Dicho sea de paso, los Leones le estan ganando a las Aguilas 6-2.

A few weeks ago, Adam Freed and his family spent some time with my wife and I eating lunch together.  Adam was one of the dorm guys in Texas Baptist College when I was the Dean of Men.  Mrs. Freed and I worked together on the staff at Longview Baptist Temple.  She was one of the church secretaries and played the piano for our Spanish Soul-winning meeting on Thursday nights.  My wife and I chaperoned a few dates for them when they were dating back in college.  What a blessing to see them again after so many years and this time with their children!  We had a great time catching up on lost time.  It is such a blessing to me to see the guys God allowed me to influence still serving the Lord!

Unas semanas atras, Adam Freed y su familia pasaron tiempo conmigo y mi esposa almorzando juntos.  Adam fue uno de los muchachos del dormitorio en el Colegio Bautista de Texas cuando yo fui el Decano de los Hombres.  La Hna. Freed y yo trabajamos juntos en el personal del Templo Bautista de Longview.  Ella fue una de las secretarias de la iglesia y toco el piano para nuestra reunion de ganar almas los jueves en la noche.  Mi esposa y yo los acompañamos en unas cuantas citas cuando ellos eran novios en el colegio.  ¡Que bendicion fue verlos otra vez despues de tanto años y esta vez con sus hijos!  Tuvimos un tiempo tremendo recuperando tiempo perdido.  ¡Es una bendicion para mi ver a los muchachos que Dios me permitio influenciar todavia sirviendo al Señor!

Last week my family and I took a few days off to rest from the work of the conference and went to Kansas City, Kansas to spend a few days with my in-laws, Pastor and Mrs. Jesse and Angie Dominguez.  He is the Spanish Pastor of the Amazing Grace Baptist Church, where Pastor Sam Olivas is the Pastor.  While there in Kansas, I had the opportunity to preach to the congregation.  I preached in Spanish and my father in law translated to English so the english folks could also hear the message.

La semana pasada mi familia y yo tomamos unos dias libres para descansar del trabajo de la conferencia y fuimos a Kansas City, Kansas a pasar unos dias con mis suegros, el Pastor y la Hermana Jesse y Angie Dominguez.  El es el Pastor Hispano de la Iglesia Bautista Sublime Gracia, donde el Pastor Sam Olivas pastorea.  Mientras estuve alli en Kansas, tuve la oportunidad de predicarle a la congregacion.  Predique en Español y mi suegro tradujo en Ingles para que los hermanos americanos pudieran escuchar el mensaje tambien.
