Preaching in Jalisco and Michoacan/Predicando en Jalisco y en Michoacan

On Monday, November 14^th I left for Guadalajara, Jalisco in Mexico to preach in two conferences and for two or our missionaries.  From Monday through Wednesday I preached for Missionary Emilio Mejía at the Precious Seed Baptist Church in Ocotlán, Jalisco.  Brother Emilio has been there for 3 years and our church has supported him and his family for 4 years.  We had a great family conference with many decisions.  Then on Thursday morning we drove for 3 hours to Cherán, Michoacán to preach the Anniversary Conference for Missionary Pedro Leco.  This was his 11^th anniversary since he started the church.  There I preached Thursday night and Friday morning and night.  I had the honor to also share the pulpit with Pastor Mario Orellana (not pictured) from Tenaha Texas, Pastor Armando Dominguez from Morelia Michoacán, and Pastor Ricardo Galicia from Tanguancicaro, Michoacán.  This is one of those places where society is still many years behind and they don’t enjoy the comforts of modern things like a stove.  Pictured is the church’s kitchen preparing the meal for the day for the delegates!  We have supported the Leco family for 7 years and our investment has not been in vain.  Let’s continue encouraging our missionaries to do great things for God in the mission field.

El lunes 14 de noviembre salí para Guadalajra, Jalisco en México para predicar en dos conferencias y dos de nuestros misioneros.  De lunes a miércoles prediqué para el Misionero Emilio Mejía en la Iglesia Bautista Simiente Preciosa en Ocotlán, Jalisco.  El Hermano Emilio ha estado ahí por 3 años y nuestra iglesia lo ha sostenido a él y a su familia por 4 años.  Tuvimos una grandiosa conferencia de la familia con muchas decisiones.  Luego el jueves en la mañana manejamos por 3 horas hacia Cherán, Michoacán para predicar la Conferencia de Aniversario para el Misionero Pedro Leco.  Este fue el 11avo aniversario desde que él comenzó la iglesia.  Ahí prediqué el jueves en la noche y el viernes en la mañana y en la noche.  Tuve el honor de compartir el púlpito con el Pastor Mario Orellana (no retratado) de Tenaha, Texas, el Pastor Armando Domínguez de Morelia, Michoacán y el Pastor Ricardo Galicia de Tanguancicaro, Michoacán.  Este es unos de esos lugares donde la sociedad está todavía muchos años atrasada y ellos no gozan de las comodidades de cosas modernas como una estufa.  ¡En el retrato está la cocina de la iglesia preparando la cena del día para los delegados!  Hemos sostenido a la familia Leco por 7 años y nuestra inversión no ha sido en vano.  Vamos a continuar animando a nuestros misioneros a hacer grandes cosas para Dios en el campo misionero.

Preaching in Lexington, KY/Predicando en Lexington, KY

On Monday, November 7th my wife, Andrés and I left for Lexington, KY.  I have been going to Lexington every year for the past 5 years to preach the Anniversary Conference for my good friend Pastor Anhuar Palacios.  He is the Spanish Pastor for the Clays Mill Road Baptist Church, where Dr. Fugate is the Pastor and also the President of Commonwealth Baptist College.  Our two sons, Danny and David, along with 5 other young people from our church attend the college.  We thank God for a college where the stand has been the same on the Bible and on convictions that I was taught as a teenager and college student many years ago.  I preached every night for the Spanish services, taught 6 times during the day sessions on parenting to the Spanish folks on Wednesday and Thursday morning and also preached in college chapel on Tuesday morning.  What a joy it is to preach in this place and at the same time be able to spend the entire week with our sons and the young people of our church.  Needless to say we had a great time!

El lunes 7 de noviembre mi esposa, Andrés y yo salimos para Lexington, KY.  Yo he estado yendo a Lexington cada año por los pasados 5 años para predicar la Conferencia de Aniversario para mi buen amigo el Pastor Anhuar Palacios.  El es el Pastor hispano de la Iglesia Bautista de Clays Mill Road, donde el Dr. Fugate es el Pastor y también el Presidente del Colegio Bautista Commonwealth.  Nuestros dos hijos, Danny y David, junto con otros 5 estudiantes de nuestra iglesia asisten al colegio.  Le damos gracias a Dios por un colegio donde su posición ha sido la misma en cuanto a la Biblia y las convicciones que yo fui enseñado como joven y estudiante de colegio muchos años atrás.  Yo prediqué todas la noches para los servicios hispanos, enseñé 6 veces durante las sesiones del día sobre criar hijos a los hermanos hispanos el miércoles y el jueves en la mañana y también prediqué en la capilla del colegio el martes en la mañana.  Que gozo es predicar en este lugar y a la misma vez poder pasar la semana entera con nuestros hijos y los jóvenes de nuestra iglesia.  ¡De más está decir que tuvimos un grandioso tiempo!

Annual Old-Fashion service/Servicio Anual a la Antigua

Sunday, November 6^th was our church’s annual Old-Fashion service.  We have a lot of fun dressing up in old fashion outfits Spanish style.  We had cowboys, Indians, country folks, mariachis, and many others.  Every year we have a competition for the best dressed and give away $50.00 to the one best dressed in the congregation either individually or as a family.  After the service we have food and fellowship.  We decorate the auditorium and make the atmosphere a very exciting old fashion one!  This year I preached a sermon entitled, “Forsaking not the Assembly.”  It was hot sermon about being faithful to God’s house in the midst of these days when people are neglecting being in church.  The hope for our country is to get back to our old fashion church services.

El domingo, 6 de noviembre fue nuestro servicio anual a la antigua de nuestra iglesia.  Tenemos mucha diversión vistiéndonos en ropa a la antigua estilo hispano.  Tuvimos vaqueros, indios, campesinos, mariachis y otros más.  Cada año tenemos una competencia del mejor que vista y regalamos $50.00 al que mejor vista de la congregación ya sea individualmente o como familia.  Después del servicio tenemos comida y compañerismo.  ¡Decoramos el auditorio y hacemos el ambiente uno de mucho entusiasmo a la antigua!  Este año prediqué un sermón titulado, “No dejando de congregarnos.”  Fue un sermón caliente sobre ser fiel a la casa de Dios en medio de estos días cuando la gente está descuidando estar en la iglesia.  La esperanza de nuestra nación es regresar a nuestros servicios de los tiempos antiguos.

Preaching in Mexico City/Predicando en la Ciudad de Mexico

On Monday, October 31^st I left for Mexico City to preach for my good friend Missionary David Combe.  Our church supports the Combe family and we thank God for the wonderful job they are doing.  They started Mount Calvary Baptist Church 6 years ago and God has blessed them greatly and given them many wonderful families.  We had a two-night meeting as I preached for the third time in a row his family conference.  Praise the Lord for the great work our missionaries are doing in the mission field.

El lunes, 31 de octubre salí para la Ciudad de México para predicar para mi buen amigo Misionero David Combe.  Nuestra iglesia sostiene a la familia Combe y le damos las gracias a Dios por el maravilloso trabajo que están haciendo.  Ellos comenzaron la Iglesia Bautista Monte Calvario 6 años atrás y Dios los ha bendecido grandemente y les ha dado muchas maravillosas familias. Tuvimos una reunión de dos noches al yo predicar por tercera vez consecutiva su conferencia de la familia.  Gloria a Dios por la gran obra que nuestros misioneros están haciendo en el campo.

Last Wednesday night was my birthday and since I traveled with my wife I decided to stay an extra day to spend it with her.  Well, we decided to take Tuesday to do some sight seeing and we went to Mount Airy, NC, home of famous actor Andy Griffith and we were able to see some of the memorabilia from the Andy Griffith show.  (For pictures go to my wife’s blog – www.robertaortiz.blogspot.com.)  The reason for going on Tuesday was because, when one of my friends in the ministry found out I was going to be in town, he talked to his pastor and he asked me to preach for him on Wednesday for his Christian school chapel at 11:30 am and for his Wednesday night Bible study.  I had the honor to preach for Pastor Jon Shook from the Bailey’s Grove Baptist Church in Asheboro, NC.  Brother Ricky Rosario is the Spanish Pastor there and he is the one who coordinated for me to be there that day.  Obviously, I was very happy to do so and what an honor for me to preach in such a great church.  I also spoke for his Sunday school teachers and workers in their meeting before the service.  I preached the sermon “Spiritual Sacrifices.”  Many used the altar making decisions for God.  Pastor Shook and his family along with Brother Ricky Rosario, his wife and his parents and my wife and I were able to spend some time together for lunch at Brother Ricky’s parents’ house and enjoyed a delicious puertorrican meal.

El miércoles pasado fue mi cumpleaños y como yo viajé con mi esposa decidí quedarme un día extra para pasarlo con ella.  Bueno, decidimos tomar el martes para irnos de paseo y fuimos a Mount Airy, NC, hogar del famoso actor Andy Griffith y pudimos ver algunos de los recuerdos del programa de Andy Griffith.  (Para más fotos vaya al blog de mi esposa – www.robertaortiz.blogspot.com.) La razón porque fuimos el martes fue porque, cuando uno de mis amigos en el ministerio supo que yo iba a estar en el pueblo, él habló con su pastor y él me pidió que predicara para él en su capilla de la escuela Cristiana a las 11:30 am y para su estudio Bíblico del miércoles en la noche.  Tuve el honor de predicar para el Pastor Jon Shook de la Iglesia Bautista Bailey’s Grove en Asheboro, NC.  El hermano Ricky Rosario es el Pastor hispano ahí y él fue el que coordinó para que yo predicara ese día.  Obviamente, yo estuve bien contento de hacerlo y que honor para mi predicar en tan gran iglesia.  También le hablé a los maestros y obreros de la escuela dominical en su reunión antes del servicio.  Prediqué el sermón “Sacrificios Espirituales.”  Muchos usaron el altar haciendo decisiones para Dios.  El Pastor Shook y su familia junto con el Hermano Ricky, su esposa y sus padres y mi esposa y yo pudimos pasar un poco de tiempo juntos para el almuerzo en la casa de los padres del Hermano Ricky y disfrutamos una deliciosa comida puertorriqueña.

On Monday, October 24^th my wife and I left for Greensboro, NC where I was to preach for the 6^th consecutive time for Pastor Albert Lopez, Pastor of the Open Door Baptist Church.  Pastor Lopez and I are from the same home church in Puerto Rico.  He was a bus kid reached by our church’s bus ministry and went to Hyles-Anderson College.  He started this church 15 years ago and has done a tremendous job.  I preach for him every year a family conference and it amazes me how the church grows every year.  No doubt the Lord is using him in a mighty way.  There were many decisions made and the Lord moved in the services in a special way.  Many people came to me after the services with tears in their eyes letting me know the Lord spoke to their hearts.  Praise the Lord for His grace in using a sinner like me!

El lunes, 24 de octubre mi esposa y yo salimos para Greensboro, Carolina del Norte donde yo iba a predicar por mi 6^ta vez consecutiva para el Pastor Alberto López, Pastor de la Iglesia Bautista Puerta Abierta.  El Pastor López y yo somos de la misma iglesia hogar en Puerto Rico.  El era un niño de las rutas alcanzado por el ministerio de rutas de nuestra iglesia y fue al Colegio de Hyles-Anderson.  El comenzó esta iglesia 15 años atrás y ha hecho un tremendo trabajo.  Yo predico para él cada año una conferencia de la familia y me sorprende como la iglesia crece cada año.  Sin duda el Señor está usándolo a él en una manera poderosa.  Hubo muchas decisiones hechas y el Señor se movió en los servicios en una manera especial.  Muchas personas vinieron a mí después de los servicios con lágrimas en sus ojos dejándome saber que el Señor les había hablado a sus corazones.  ¡Gloria al Señor por Su gracia en usar a un pecador como yo!

Last Sunday, October 23^rd we had the honor of having another one of our missionaries visit our church in the evening service.  Missionary Joshua Webb and his family from the Philippine Islands shared a tremendous report about how the Lord is blessing their work there.  We have been supporting his ministry for over four years and we are so thankful to the Lord for the return on our investment.  We are always happy to see our missionaries visit our church.  Let’s pray for their ministry, safety and for God to provide for their needs.

El domingo pasado, 23 de octubre tuvimos el honor de tener a otro de nuestros misioneros visitar nuestra iglesia en el servicio de la noche.  Misionero Joshua Webb y su familia de las Islas Filipinas compartieron un tremendo reporte de cómo el Señor está bendiciendo su obra allá.  Nosotros hemos estado sosteniendo su ministerio por más de cuatro años y estamos bien agradecidos al Señor por el regreso en nuestra inversión.  Siempre estamos contentos de ver a nuestros misioneros visitar nuestra iglesia.  Vamos a orar por su ministerio, su seguridad y para que Dios provea para sus necesidades.

In Monterrey and Chiapas Mexico/En Monterrey y en Chiapas Mexico

Last Monday I left my house early to go to DFW and catch a plane to Monterrey, Mexico.  I spoke at the Mount Sinai Baptist Church where Brother Hector Avila is the Pastor.  Pastor Avila started this church many years ago and had led this church to an outstanding growth.  The church now has a new auditorium which fits a good 700 people.  I had the honor of speaking with on of my heroes in the ministry, Pastor Alejandro Cordova from the Fundamental Baptist Church in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico.  I spoke there Monday night, Tuesday morning and night.  I also shared the pulpit with Pastor Azael Cocon from Campeche, Mexico.  Unfortunately his picture didn’t turn out.  On Wednesday morning I was taken to the airport in Monterrey to catch my flight to Tuxtla Gutierrez where I met Brother Teodoro Vera who pastors the Peniel Independent Fundamental Baptist Church in San Cristóbal de las Casas Chiapas, Mexico.  He has pastored this church for 22 years!  Pastor Vera was one of my Sunday School students in my college & career Sunday school class when I was the Spanish youth director at the First Baptist Church of Hammond, IN under the leadership of Dr. Jack Hyles and Dr. Elmer Fernandez.  It is a blessing to see men who at one time were under my teaching still serving God and doing His will.  This is what makes it worth it!

El lunes pasado salí de mi casa temprano para ir a DFW y tomar un avión hacia Monterrey, México.  Prediqué en la Iglesia Bautista Monte Sinaí donde el Hermano Héctor Avila es el Pastor.  El Pastor Avila ha guiado a esta iglesia a un crecimiento sobresaliente.  La iglesia ahora tiene un auditorio nuevo en el cual le caben cono unas buenas 700 personas.  Tuve el honor de predicar con uno de mis héroes del ministerio, el Pastor Alejandro Córdova de la Iglesia Fundamental Bautista de Celaya, Guanajuato, México.  Prediqué el lunes en la noche, el martes en la mañana y en la noche.  También compartí el púlpito con el Pastor Azael Cocón de Campeche, México.  Desafortunadamente su foto no salió bien.  El miércoles en la mañana me llevaron al aeropuerto de Monterrey para tomar mi vuelo a Tuxtla Gutiérrez donde me encontré con el Hermano Teodoro Vera quien pastorea la Iglesia Bautista Fundamental Independiente Peniel en San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, México.  ¡El ha pastoreado esta iglesia por 22 años!  El Pastor Vera fue uno de mis alumnos de escuela dominical en mi clase de jóvenes colegiales cuando yo fui el director hispano de jóvenes en la Primera Iglesia Bautista de Hammond, IN bajo el liderazgo del Dr. Jack Hyles y el Dr. Elmer Fernández.  Es una bendición ver hombres que en un tiempo estuvieron bajo mi enseñanza que todavía están sirviendo a Dios y haciendo Su voluntad.  ¡Esto es lo que lo hace que todo valga la pena!

On Thursday, October 6^th we held our 4^th Annual Men’s Retreat at our church “Quit You Like Men.” Pastor Albert Lopez, form the Open Door Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC was our special guest speaker.  What a great time we had not only of fellowship, but also of great teaching for the men! We had a great group attending this year.

El jueves, 6 de octubre tuvimos nuestro 4^to Retiro Anual en nuestra iglesia “Portaos Varonilmente.” El Pastor López, de la Iglesia Bautista Puerta Abierta en Greensboro, NC fue nuestro conferencista especial.  ¡Que gran tiempo tuvimos no sólo de compañerismo, sino también de gran enseñanza para los hombres!  Tuvimos un gran grupo asistiendo este año.

Last Sunday, October 2^nd, began our annual “Harvest of Souls” fall campaign and as always, Dr. Wendell Evans, President Emeritus of Hyles-Anderson College, came to be our special guest speaker.  This is his 6^th time in a row he and his wife come to be with us.  Our people not only anticipate their coming, but also enjoy hearing him preach.  He preached two great sermons for us that day.  His Sunday morning sermon on the goodness of God was a tremendous breath of fresh air for our people and he challenged us on Sunday night to do more for God.  We also had the privilege of having the Tom Sloan family, missionaries to Chiapas, Mexico in our service that morning.  They were just passing by and decided to visit our church.  I am glad missionaries know they can stop in our church any time they wish.  Some of our music groups sang that day and overall the Lord gave us a great Sunday with over 300 in attendance, 9 saved and 3 baptized.  Praise the Lord for His goodness!

El domingo pasado, 2 de octubre, comenzó nuestra campaña de otoño anual “Cosecha de Almas” y como siempre, el Dr. Wendell Evans, Presidente Emeritus del colegio de Hyles-Anderson, vino a ser nuestro invitado especial.  Esta es la 6^ta vez corrida que él y su esposa vienen a estar con nosotros.  Nuestra gente no sólo anticipa la venida de ellos, sino que también disfrutan escucharlo predicar.  El predicó dos grandes sermones para nosotros ese día.  Su sermón el domingo en la mañana sobre la bondad de Dios fue un aliento de aire fresco para nuestra gente y él nos retó el domingo en la noche a que hagamos más para Dios.  También tuvimos el privilegio de tener a la familia de Tomás Sloan, misioneros a Chiapas, México en nuestro servicio esa mañana.  Ellos estaban pasando por él área y decidieron visitar nuestra iglesia.  Estoy contento  que misioneros saben que pueden parar en nuestra iglesia cuando lo deseen.  Algunos de nuestros grupos musicales cantaron ese día y sobre todo el Señor nos dio un gran domingo con más de 300 en asistencia, 9 salvos y 3 bautizados.  ¡Gloria a Dios por Su bondad!
