Preaching at the Montecito Baptist Church/Predicando en la Iglesia Bautista Montecito

Last Saturday my wife, Andrés and I flew to Ontario, California.  I had the honor of preaching for my friend and hero, Dr. Ezequiel Salazar at the Montecito Baptist Church.  His church was celebrating 32 years of the grace and love of God upon their church.  Wow, what an amazing work!  I spoke on Saturday afternoon at a workers’ banquet and on Sunday I spoke at 9:00 am to the English Church, at 10:30 I spoke to the Adult Sunday School class, at 11:30 I spoke in the main service and at 6:00 I spoke in the evening service.  What a tremendous day of seeing the blessings of God in the services!  Many were saved, baptized and many decisions were made especially in the evening service.  Thank you Pastor Salazar for your faithfulness through these 32 years and congratulation Montecito Baptist Church!

El pasado sábado mi esposa, Andrés y yo volamos a Ontario California.  Tuve el honor de predicar para mi amigo y héroe, el Dr. Ezequiel Salazar en la Iglesia Bautista Montecito.  Su iglesia estaba celebrando 32 años de la gracia y el amor de Dios sobre su iglesia.  ¡Wow, que obra sorprendente!  Prediqué el sábado en la tarde en un banquete de obreros y el domingo prediqué a las 9:00 am en la Iglesia Americana, a las 10:30 prediqué en la escuela dominical de adultos, a las 11:30 prediqué en el servicio principal y a las 6:00 prediqué en el servicio de la noche.  ¡Qué tremendo día de ver las bendiciones de Dios en los servicios!  Hubo muchos salvos, bautizados, y muchas decisiones fueron hechas especialmente en el servicio de la noche. ¡Gracias Pastor Salazar por su fidelidad estos 32 años y felicidades Iglesia Bautista Montecito!

Trip to West Virginia/Viaje a West Virginia

A week and a half ago my son Andrés and I flew to Washington Dulles International Airport.  We then rented a car and drove to Martinsburg, West Virginia to attend the 2^nd Annual Youth Conference at the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church, where Dr. Jeff Owens is the Pastor.  What a tremendous conference it was!  The theme was “SMASH THE TRASH.”  The messages were powerful and the spirit was exciting.  Dr. Owens and his staff outdid themselves in making sure the conference was first class.  There’s no doubt the Spirit of the Lord was there.  Many decisions were made by the young people including 70 who surrendered to work in the bus ministry and 75 who surrendered to full-time Christian service.  God knows we need a new generation of young people who will rise up and give their lives to serve the Lord and spare our nation from judgment.  May the Lord give us revival!

Una semana y media atrás mi hijo Andrés y yo volamos al Aeropuerto Internacional de Washington Dulles.  Rentamos un carro y manejamos hacia Martinsburg, West Virginia para asistir a la 2da Conferencia Anual de Jóvenes en la Iglesia Bíblica Bautista de Shenandoah, donde el Dr. Jeff Owens es el Pastor.  ¡Qué tremenda conferencia fue!  El tema fue “APLASTA LA BASURA.”  Los mensajes fueron poderosos y el espíritu emocionante.  El Dr. Owens y su personal se sobresalieron en asegurarse que la conferencia fuese de primera clase.  Sin duda el Espíritu del Señor estuvo ahí.  Muchas decisiones fueron hechas por los jóvenes incluyendo 70 que se rindieron a trabajar en el ministerio de rutas y 75 que se rindieron a servir al Señor tiempo completo.  Dios sabe que necesitamos una generación de jóvenes que se levanten y le den sus vidas para servir al Señor y libren a nuestra nación del juicio.  ¡Qué el Señor nos dé un avivamiento!

Seventh Anniversary as Pastor/Septimo Aniversario como Pastor

This past Sunday, July 3, was my seventh anniversary as Pastor of the Iglesia Bautista Fundamental in Lewisville, Texas.  The Lord has done great things in these past seven years. The church has grown from 35 in Sunday school and about 60 in church back in 2004 to almost 300 today.  Many have been saved, baptized, and many lives have been transformed.  God has been more than good to me!  Praise God for His wonderful grace!  The church, as they always do, had a gift for me.  This year they collected an offering for me to buy a new lap top computer.  My wife and two of our children (Elyssa and Andres) were also recognized in the program.  Obviously, I couldn’t have made it without them.  Danny and David are in Lexington, Kentucky attending Commonwealth Baptist College.  They stayed the summer to work and save money for the fall semester.  Also we had our children’s choir sing and one of our missionaries, Brother Samuel Esquivel, missionary to Israel preached the sermon that night.  It was a beautiful night!  We ended it with a big meal provided by our people and a huge cake for all to enjoy!

Este pasado domingo, 3 de Julio, fue mi séptimo aniversario como Pastor de la Iglesia Bautista Fundamental en Lewisville, Texas.  El Señor ha hecho grandes cosas es estos siete años.  La iglesia ha crecido de 35 en la escuela dominical y como 60 en la iglesia en el 2004 a casi 300 hoy día.  Muchos han sido salvos, bautizados, y muchas vidas han sido transformadas.  ¡Dios ha sido muy bueno conmigo!  ¡Gloria a Dios por Su maravillosa gracia!  La iglesia, como siempre hacen, me dieron un regalo. Ellos recogieron una ofrenda para yo comprarme una computadora portátil nueva.  Mi esposa y dos de nuestros hijos (Elyssa y Andrés) fueron también reconocidos en el programa. Obviamente, yo no lo pudiera haber hecho sin ellos.  Danny y David están en Lexington, Kentucky asistiendo al Colegio Bautista Commonwealth.  Ellos se quedaron en el verano para trabajar y ahorrar dinero para el semestre del otoño.  También tuvimos al coro de los niños cantar y uno de nuestros misioneros, el Hermano Samuel Esquivel, misionero a Israel predicó el sermón de la noche.  ¡Fue una noche hermosa!  ¡Terminamos con una comida grande provista por nuestra gente y un pastel inmenso para todos disfrutar!

This weekend my son in law, Jared, went to Roma, Texas to present his ministry to the Philippine Islands in a couple of churches.  Since my daughter, Elyssa, is not able to go on long trips until she gives birth to Gabriella, she came home for the weekend.  What a joy it was to spend time with her!  She was able to come to church with us and spend a great amount of time just talking about the future and our future granddaughter.  I thank God for my children and now my children’s children.

Este pasado fin de semana mi yerno, Jared, fue a Roma, Texas a presentar su ministerio a las Islas Filipinas en un par de iglesias.  Como mi hija, Elyssa, no puede hacer viajes largos hasta que de a luz a Gabriella, ella se vino a casa el fin de semana.  ¡Qué gozo fue pasar tiempo con ella!  Ella pudo ir a la iglesia con nosotros y pasar una gran cantidad de tiempo simplemente hablando del futuro y el nuestra futura nieta.  Le doy gracias a Dios por mis hijos y ahora por los hijos de mis hijos.

Preaching in Longview, TX/Predicando en Longview, TX

This past Monday, I left for Longview, Texas to preach for my good friend, Dr. Bob Gray, II in his 17^th National Teen Convention.  Our church took over 20 teens as we do every year.  God has given me the honor of preaching in this conference since it began in 1995 except for two occasions due to health reasons.  What a conference this was!  The theme of the week was, “DARE TO BE DIFFERENT.”  The spirit was great, and there is no doubt that God did something in the hearts of all the teens who attended.  I spoke on Tuesday morning on the subject, “Love Not The World.”  Every year Dr. Bob Gray, Sr. preaches the Wednesday night service and it has become a highlight!  This year Dr. Gray became ill with a bad back and was not able to be there at all.  (Please do pray for him!)  Pastor Gray II asked me to speak also on Wednesday night and you are talking about being nervous!  I know I am not the caliber of a Dr. Gray, Sr!  But after much prayer I did preach on the subject, “And I Sought For A Man Among Them.”  To the glory of God 167 young people surrendered to be Men if God and Pastors’ wives.  It was a night much to be remembered!  The week was filled with great activities, games, preaching and great music, delicious food and lots of fun.  Our teens didn’t want to leave.  Now comes the task of helping our teens live up to the decisions they have made.  Please pray for our teens that they will stand and stay on fire for the Lord.  Enjoy the pictures!  (Lots of more pictures and details in my wife’s blog at www.robertaortiz.blogspot.com)

Este pasado lunes, salí para Longview, Texas para predicar para mi buen amigo, Dr. Bob Gray II en su 17ma Convención Nacional de Jóvenes.  Nuestra iglesia llevó más de 20 jóvenes como hacemos todos los años.  Dios me ha dado el honor de predicar en esta conferencia desde su comienzo en el 1995 excepto por dos ocasiones por razones de salud.  ¡Qué conferencia este año!  El tema de la semana fue, “ATREVETE A SER DIFERENTE.”  El espíritu fue grandioso y no hay duda que Dios hizo algo en los corazones de todos los jóvenes que asistieron.  Yo prediqué el martes en la mañana sobre el tema, “No Améis Al Mundo.”  Todos los años el Dr. Bob Gray, Sr. predica el miércoles en la noche y eso se ha convertido en el momento cumbre.  Este año el Dr. Gray se enfermó de su espalda y no pudo estar ahí.  (Por favor oren por él.)  El Pastor Gray II me pidió que predicara también el miércoles en la noche y ¡estamos hablando de ponerme nervioso!  ¡Yo no soy de la calibre del Dr. Gray, Sr.!  Pero después de mucha oración, prediqué sobre el tema, “Y Busqué Entre Ellos Hombre.”  Para la gloria de Dios 167 jóvenes se rindieron a ser Hombres de Dios y esposas de Pastores.  ¡Fue una noche para recordar!  La semana estuvo llena de actividades, juegos, predicaciones, música grandiosa, comida deliciosa y mucha diversión.  Nuestros jóvenes no querían irse.  Ahora viene el trabajo de ayudar a nuestros jóvenes a vivir las decisiones que ellos han hecho.  Por favor oren por nuestros jóvenes para que puedan a estar firme y mantenerse en fuego para el Señor.  ¡Disfruten las fotos!  (Mas fotos y detalles en el blog de mi esposa en www.robertaortiz.blogspot.com)

Preaching in Greensboro, North Carolina/Predicando en Greensboro, Carolina del Norte

This past Thursday I flew from DFW airport to Greensboro, North Carolina to be with my good friend from childhood and Pastor of the Open Door Baptist Church, Pastor Albert López.  I preached his 3^rd Annual Southeast Youth Conference.  I spoke along with Pastor Dani Motta from the Liberty Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina and Pastor Ricardo Rosario from the Bailey’s Grove Baptist Church in Ashboro, North Carolina.  The theme of the conference was a military theme – “Soldiers for Christ.”  We had a great attendance and many decisions were made including several who surrendered to full-time Christian service.  I praise the Lord for the way He is using Pastor López.  Pastor López and I come from the same home church in Levittown, Puerto Rico.  He came to our church in 1982 when I was a freshman in Bible college.  He said I was his biggest influence and yet I didn’t know that until now.  You just never know who you are influencing today!  Not only that, but I was Pastor Motta’s pastor in Puerto Rico when I pastored my first church in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.  Pastor Motta was called to preach at Pastors’ School in Hammond, Indiana on a trip that I took 21 people from our church.  That’s not all, I also had the privilege of influencing Pastor Rosario to serve the Lord full time.  At a point in his life when his father was about to lose him, I invited Pastor Rosario to a youth camp and in that camp he got right with God and surrendered to serve the Lord.  His life was transformed for the Lord!  What a joy it was for me to share the pulpit with these men.  It makes it all worth it!  Let’s keep on keeping on because we never know what our influence is doing for generations to come.  Just think of all the people that have been reached and lives that have been transformed because of the way the Lord is using these men.  I thank God for the honor He has given me to help some people along my journey.  Thank you Jesus for loving me so much and for using me for your Glory and Honor!  I love you, Lord!

Este pasado jueves volé del aeropuerto de DFW a Greensboro, Carolina del Norte para estar con mi buen amigo de la infancia y el Pastor de la Iglesia Bautista Puerta Abierta, el Pastor Alberto López.  Prediqué su 3ra Conferencia Anual de Jóvenes del Sureste.  Prediqué junto con el Pastor Dani Motta de la Iglesia Bautista Libertad en Durham, Carolina del Norte y con el Pastor Ricardo Rosario de la Iglesia Bautista Bailey’s Grove en Ashboro Carolina del Norte.  El tema de la conferencia fue un tema militar – “Soldados Para Cristo.”  Tuvimos una gran asistencia y muchas decisiones fueron hechas incluyendo a varios que rindieron sus vidas al tiempo completo en el servicio Cristiano.  Alabo al Señor por la manera que El está usando al Pastor López.  El Pastor López y yo venimos de la misma iglesia natal en Levittown, Puerto Rico.  El vino a nuestra iglesia en el 1982 cuando yo estaba en mi primer año de colegio Bíblico.  El dijo que yo fui su más grande influencia y sin embargo yo no lo sabía hasta hoy.  ¡Uno nunca sabe a quien está influenciando hoy!  No sólo eso, pero yo fui el Pastor del Pastor Motta en Puerto Rico cuando tuve mi primer pastorado en Fajardo, Puerto Rico.  El Pator Motta fue llamado a predicar en la Escuela de Pastores en Hammond, Indiana cuando yo llevé un grupo de 21 personas de nuestra iglesia.  Eso no es todo, yo también tuve el privilegio de influenciar al Pastor Rosario a que sirviera al Señor tiempo completo.  En un punto de su vida cuando su papá estaba por perderlo, yo invité al Pastor Rosario a un campamento de jóvenes y en ese campammento el arregló su vida con Dios y se rindió a servir al Señor.  ¡Su vida fue transformada para el Señor!  Que gozo fue compartir el púlpito con estos hombres.  ¡Hace que todo valga la pena!  Vamos a continuar continuando porque no sabemos lo que nuestra influencia está haciendo para las generaciones que vienen.  Sólo piensa en todas las personas que han sido alcanzadas y vidas que han sido transformadas por la manera que el Señor está usando a estos hombres.  Yo le doy gracias a Dios por el honor que El me ha dado de ayudar a algunas personas en mi jornada.  ¡Gracias Jesús por amarme tanto y por usarme para Tu Gloria y Honra!  ¡Te amo, Señor!

1st Annual Teen Banquet/1er Banquete Anual de Jovenes

Last night we had our very first formal Teen Banquet where we gave awards and recognized teens for their soul winning efforts and their walk with God.  Dr. Bob Gray II was our key note speaker for the night.  He preached on having a dream and challenged our teens and our parents to keep busy doing God’s work until we find the dream God has for us.  A total of 82 people went to the banquet.  Among them my Dad and Mom who just retired from their church in Hammond, Indiana and moved to Texas and became members of my church last Sunday.  It was a memorable night for all of us and one I believe will set the pace for more teens to catch on fire for God and find their dream for their lives.  Let’s pray for our teens!

Anoche tuvimos nuestro primer banquete formal de jóvenes donde dimos premios y reconocimos a jóvenes por sus esfuerzos ganando almas y su caminar con Dios.  Dr. Bob Gray II fue el predicador de la noche.  El predicó sobre tener un sueño y retó a nuestros jóvenes y a nuestros padres a mantenerse ocupados haciendo la obra de Dios hasta que encontremos el sueño que Dios tiene para nosotros.  Un total de 82 personas fueron al banquete.  Entre ellos mi Papá y mi Mamá quienes acaban de retirarse de su iglesia en Hammond, Indiana y se movieron a Texas y se hicieron miembros de mi iglesia el domingo pasado.  Fue una noche memorable para todos nosotros y una que yo creo establecerá el camino para que más jóvenes se prendan en fuego para Dios y encuentren su sueño para sus vidas.  ¡Vamos a orar por nuestros jóvenes!
