Two of our young ladies go to Bible college/Dos de nuestras muchachas se van al colegio Biblico

Last Sunday night we said good-bye to two of our young ladies, Ruth Ríos and Brenda Ruiz who left this week for Bible college.  Ruth went to West Coast Baptist College in Lancaster, CA where Dr. Paul Chapel is the Pastor and Brenda went to Commonwealth Baptist College in Lexington, KY where Dr. Jeff Fugate is the Pastor.  What a joy is to see young people who have grown in our church leave to prepare for the ministry.  What a responsibility we have to guide them to find God’s will and to pray for them as they do it.  More than ever, our young people in Bible college need our prayers.  Ruth and Brenda we are very proud of you and even though we are going to miss you, we are very excited for you as you begin this wonderful journey called college life.  May the Lord bless you and use you greatly!

El domingo pasado le dijimos adiós a dos de nuestras muchachas, Ruth Ríos y Brenda Ruiz quienes salieron esta semana para ir al colegio bíblico.  Ruth se fue al Colegio Bautista de West Coast en Lancaster, CA donde pastorea el Dr. Paul Chapel y Brenda se fue al Colegio Bautista Commonwealth en Lexington, KY donde pastorea el Dr. Jeff Fugate.  Que gozo es ver a jóvenes que han crecido en nuestra iglesia irse a preparar para el ministerio.  Que responsabilidad tenemos de guiarlos a encontrar la voluntad de Dios y orar por ellos mientras la hacen.  Más que nunca, nuestros jóvenes en el colegio Bíblico necesitan nuestras oraciones.  Ruth y Brenda estamos orgullosos de ustedes y aunque las vamos a extrañar, estamos bien contentos por ustedes al comenzar esta maravillosa jornada llamada la vida colegial.  ¡Qué el Señor les bendiga y les use grandemente!

Last Saturday my wife, Andrés and I went to DFW airport to pick up Danny and David who were arriving from Lexington, KY to spend 4 days at home right before their school year was to start.  They came to spend time with the family and to see their niece that now is one month old.  We also had Jared, Elyssa and Gabriella spend the four days at home.  So we had a full house and what a joy it was to have them all at home again.  Roberta had gone to the store to buy all kinds of groceries and snacks for them and boy the cleaned us out!  We did a lot in the four days we were together including going to Sears for a family portrait that soon I will be posting some pictures in the blog.  Danny and David left for Lexington on Wednesday morning and Jared, Elyssa and Gabriella left for their home later that day.  Our house is now back to the Roberta, Andres and me and we can feel the emptiness.  But that’s how life is!  We just praise the Lord that our children are in God’s will.

EL sábado pasado, mi esposa, Andrés y yo fuimos al aeropuerto de DFW a levantar a Danny y a David que estaban llegando de Lexington, KY para pasar 4 días en casa antes de ellos comenzar el año escolar.  Ellos vinieron para pasar tiempo con la familia y ver a su sobrina que para ahora tiene un mes de edad.  También tuvimos a Jared, Elyssa y a Gabriella pasar los cuatro días en casa.  Así que tuvimos la casa llena y que gozo fue tenerlos a todos en casa otra vez.  Roberta había ido a la tienda a comprar toda clase de comida, y meriendas para ellos y muchacho ¡cómo nos acabaron!  Hicimos mucho en los cuatro días que estuvimos juntos incluyendo ir a Sears para una foto familiar que pronto estaré poniendo fotos en el blog.  Danny y David se fueron el miércoles en la mañana y Jared, Elyssa y Gabriella se fueron un poco más tarde de casa.  Nuestra casa ha regresado a Roberta, Andrés y yo y podemos sentir la soledad.  ¡Pero así es la vida!  Nosotros simplemente le damos alabanza al Señor porque nuestros hijos están el voluntad de Dios.

Conference in Monterrey, Mexico/Conferencia en Monterrey, Mexico

On Monday, August 15, I flew to Monterrey, Mexico to preach at the Ebenezer Fundamental Baptist Church pastored by Pastor Carlos Saucedo.  What a great conference we had!  The theme of the conference was “A Church Examined and Approved by God.”  Many made decisions each night!  The Lord blessed tremendously.

El lunes, 15 de agosto, volé a Monterrey, México para predicar en la Iglesia Bautista Fundamental Ebenezer pastoreada por el Pastor Carlos Saucedo.  ¡Qué tremenda conferencia tuvimos!  El tema de la conferencia fue “Una Iglesia Examinada y Aprobada por Dios.”  ¡Muchas decisiones fueron hechas cada noche!  El Señor bendijo tremendamente.

Missionary Trip to El Salvador/Viaje Misionero al Salvador

On Wednesday, August 3, I was picked up by my assitant, Bro. Kelly Daniel at home and headed to DFW airport for me to catch a plane to Miami, FL and then take my flight to San Salvador, El Salvador.  I was scheduled to preach there for one of our missionaries, Bro. Henry González, Pastor of the Independent Baptist Church in Santa Ana, El Salvador.  He and his family have been there for 14 years as missionaries.  What a great job they are doing!  Well, I lost my flight to El Salvador because my flight from DFW had mechanical problems.  I ended up arriving in El Salvador that night after 6:00 pm which was too late for me to make to the service that night.  I was picked up by two of Bro. Henry’s men and they kindly took me to have a bite to eat and then to the hotel where I was to stay.  The conference was a great success with many people pledging to give to missions.  The crowd was tremendous and the conference ended with a banquet on Friday night.  There were 8 other pastors who attended the conference, some of them missionaries also to either El Salvador or Guatemala.  Bro. Angel López and his family attended also, another one of our missionaries, and like always it is always a blessing to see our missionaries in conferences where I preach and share a few days and moments with them.  Enjoy the photos!

El miércoles, 3 de agosto, fui recogido por mi asistente, el Hno. Kelly Daniel en mi casa y salimos para el aeropuerto DFW para yo tomar un avión a Miami, FL y luego tomar mi vuelo hacia San Salvador, El Salvador.  Yo estaba programado para predicar ahí para uno de nuestros misioneros, el Hno. Henry González, Pastor de la Iglesia Bautista Independiente de Santa Ana, El Salvador. El y su familia han estado ahí por 14 años como misioneros.  ¡Qué gran trabajo están haciendo!  Bueno, perdí mi vuelo al Salvador porque mi vuelo de DFW tuvo problemas mecánicos.  Terminé llegando al Salvador esa noche después de las 6:00 pm lo cual era demasiado tarde para yo llegar al servicio esa noche.  Fui recogido por dos de los hombres del Hno. Henry y ellos amablemente me llevaron a comer algo y luego al hotel donde me iba a hospedar.  La conferencia fue un gran éxito con muchas personas prometiendo dar a misiones.  La asistencia fue tremenda y la conferencia terminó con un banquete el viernes en la noche.  Hubo 8 pastores que asistieron a la conferencia, algunos entre ellos misioneros ya sea al Salvador o Guatemala. El Hno. Angel López y su familia asistieron, otro de nuestros misioneros, y como siempre es una bendición ver a nuestros misioneros en conferencias donde yo predico y compartir con ellos unos días y unos momentos.  ¡Disfruten las fotos!

Gabriella Ivelisse Zapata

My wife and I are finally grandparents!  Gabriella Ivelisse Zapata arrived last Friday, July 22 at 4:30 a.m.  You would think that I would have written about it by now, but believe it or not, we have been so busy in the midst of her birth.  To begin, our daughter went into labor the last day of the Youth Revival at the Parkside Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas.  Not only are Jared and Elyssa members there, but also our teens were attending the conference.  On top of that that same day I left for Ciudad Juárez, México.  My wife at the same time drove to Seagoville where Elyssa lives to help her during this time.  Needless to say, it was a little hectic trying to keep up with everything going on.  We praise the Lord for His goodness throughout all this time, His guidance and protection and more so for His care on Elyssa and Gabriella.  I can’t describe to you the feeling we have.  My wife was asked if we felt old and she said that honestly we don’t; we are just so excited and we love our grandbaby so much!  She is so precious and our hearts melt every time we think of her.  Enjoy the photos!

¡Mi esposa y yo somos finalmente abuelos!  Gabriella Ivelisse Zapata llegó el pasado viernes 22 de julio a las 4:30 a.m.  Ustedes pensarán que para estas alturas ya debí haber escrito al respecto, pero créanme o no hemos estado bien ocupados en medio de su nacimiento.  Para comenzar, nuestra hija comenzó a tener dolores el último día del Avivamiento Juvenil de la Iglesia Bautista Parkside en Mesquite, Texas.  No sólo son Jared y Elyssa miembros de esa iglesia, pero nuestros jóvenes estaban asistiendo a la conferencia.  Encima de eso ese mismo día yo partí para la Ciudad Juárez en México.  Mi esposa al mismo tiempo manejó a Seagoville donde vive Elyssa para ayudarla en este tiempo.  Sin duda fue un tiempo tensionado tratando de cuidar de todo lo que estaba pasando.  Alabamos al Señor por Su bondad a través de todo este tiempo, Su dirección y protección y más todavía por Su cuidado sobre Elyssa y Gabriella.  No puedo describirles el sentir que tenemos.  Le preguntaron a mi esposa si nos sentíamos viejos y ella dijo que honestamente no; estamos bien emocionados y ¡amamos a nuestra nietecita tanto!  Ella es tan preciosa y nuestros corazones se derriten cuando pensamos en ella.  ¡Disfruten las fotos!

Preaching in Ciudad Juarez/Predicando en Ciudad Juarez

A week ago I flew to El Paso, Texas where I was picked up by David Sosa, son of one of our missionaries, Heriberto Sosa.  From the airport we drove to the US/MX border and crossed into Ciudad Juárez, where Bro. Sosa is the Pastor of the Juárez Fundamental Baptist Church.  I preached Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday morning messages on the family.  The theme of the Family Conference was “From Generations to Generations.”  We had a great attendance in spite of the fact that things are very dangerous in that city.  In fact, on Thursday night while I was preaching a shootout broke out behind the church between the Federal Police and a drug dealer.  At first, I thought someone was lighting firecrackers.  I came to the realization that it wasn’t when I noticed that the church people went straight to the floor looking for cover, one of the ladies ran to the main door to shut it so no one would come in looking to take any of us as a hostage, one of the ladies present began to have an anxiety attack and Pastor Sosa was telling everyone to take cover and but to remain calmed.  Needless to say, it was scary and something I will never forget.  After about 15 minutes of trying to calm everyone down and regaining our confidence, we continued with the service.  Praise the Lord, nothing happened and we were able to have a great service with many parents making decisions to do what they had to do in order to teach their children to refuse evil and choose the good.  (Isaiah 7:15)  The Lord be praised, we didn’t have any more incidents like that!  Let’s continue to pray for our missionaries especially those in Mexico due to the increase in violence, extortion and kidnapping.  Every Wednesday we take time out of the service to pray as a church for their safety and for their protection.  May I encourage you to do the same!

Una semana atrás volé a el Paso, Texas donde fui recogido por David Sosa, hijo de uno de nuestros misioneros, Heriberto Sosa.  Del aeropuerto manejamos a la frontera de EU/MX y cruzamos a Ciudad Juárez, donde el Hermano Sosa es el Pastor de la Iglesia Bautista Fundamental de Ciudad Juárez.  Prediqué el jueves en la noche, el viernes en la noche y el sábado en la mañana mensajes de la familia.  El tema de la Conferencia de la Familia fue “De Generación en Generación.”  Tuvimos una gran asistencia a pesar del hecho de que las cosas están bien peligrosas en esa ciudad.  De hecho, el jueves en la noche mientras yo predicaba, se formó una balacera detrás de la iglesia entre la Policía Federal y un narcotraficante.  Al principio pensé que alguien estaba prendiendo cohetes.  Llegué a la realización de que no era así cuando noté que la gente de la iglesia se tiraron directamente al suelo buscando cubierta, una de las hermanas corrió hacia la puerta principal para cerrarla para que así nadie entrara buscando a uno de nosotros para tomarnos como rehenes, a una de las hermanas le comenzó a dar un ataque de ansiedad, y el Pastor Sosa estaba diciéndole a todos que buscaran cubierta, pero que estuvieran calmados.  Sin duda, fue un susto y algo que nunca olvidaré.  Después de unos 15 minutos de tratar de calmarlos a todos y recuperar nuestra confianza, continuamos el servicio.  Gloria a Dios, nada sucedió y pudimos tener un gran servicio con muchos padres haciendo decisiones de hacer lo que tuvieran que hacer para enseñarles a sus hijos a desechar lo malo y escoger lo bueno. (Isaías 7:15)  ¡Qué el Señor sea alabado, no tuvimos más incidentes como ese!  Vamos a continuar orando por nuestros misioneros especialmente esos en México por causa del aumento en la violencia, la extorsión y los secuestros.  Cada domingo nosotros tomamos tiempo del servicio para orar como iglesia por la seguridad y protección de ellos.  ¡Quiero animarles a que hagan lo mismo!

Parkside Baptist Church Youth Revival/Avivamiento Juvenil de la Iglesia Bautista Parkside

This week some of our teens and our Jr. kids have been attending the 2 in 1 conference at the Parkside Baptist Church in Mesquite, TX where Dr. Mike Wells is the Pastor.  The theme of the conference is “Search and Rescue.”  The conference has been a tremendous success and the line up of speakers has been powerful.  Monday night we heard Dr. Larry May, Pastor Emeritus of this church, and Dr. Jeff Owens, Pastor of the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church in Martinsburg, WV. Tonight we heard from Evangelist Allen Domelle, also from the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church in Martinsburg, WV and Dr. Owens again.  More than even we need to pray for our teens because the pressure today in this world is almost unbearable!

Esta semana, algunos de nuestros jóvenes y niños intermedios han estado asistiendo la conferencia 2 en 1 en la Iglesia Bautista Parkside en Mesquite, TX donde el Dr. Mike Wells es el Pastor.  El tema de la conferencia es “Búsqueda y Rescate.”  La conferencia ha sido un tremendo éxito y la alineación de los predicadores ha sido poderosa.  El lunes en la noche escuchamos al Dr. Larry May, Pastor Emérito de esta iglesia, y al Dr. Jeff Owens, Pastor de la Iglesia Bíblica Bautista de Shenandoah en Martinsburg, WV.  Esta noche escuchamos al Evangelista Allen Domelle, también de la Iglesia Bíblica Bautista de Shenandoah en Martinsburg, WV y al Dr. Owens otra vez.  ¡Más que nunca necesitamos orar por nuestros jóvenes porque la presión hoy en este mundo es casi inaguantable!
